2006 Worlds
Our own Mike Cummings competed in Rotorua, New Zealand at the World Championships.  Hoping to be one of the top Americans to line up, he ended up near the last row on the start line.  The race directors apparently called up riders at random.  This is not a race to start at the back of.    This was not Mike's day anyway.  A little over-training, a little illness helped supress his abilities.  47th for the day Mike will be a senior aged rider next season, so gets to start all over in a new class.

The 2006 World Championships are in New Zealand this time.   Weather is expected to be 50 degrees and rainy, at least the locals give it a 95% chance for cold rain.
Mike Cummings (18) is now a veteran at this event which was held in Livigno, Italy last year.  Tristian Cowie (17) attempted to qualify for this race, but due to a mid race crash requiring 9 stitches his selection was a long shot.  Tristan placed 2nd i the Mt Snow event, which is the biggie, and showed his abilities.  There he beat everyone that is headed for New Zealand.  Thumbs down to USAC for not seeing his potiential.

The qualification is based on results at select National events.  Two paid spots are available:
1) the rider winning the Norba series up to the National Championships
2) the winner of the National Championships
The other spots were coaches (usac) selection.

The World Championship is a big event.  The best athletes from all over the world come together to compete for the title of World Champion.
Medals for Pro and Junior men and women are awarded as well as a team relay.

Mike will be leaving Aug 17th for close to 24 hours of traveling.  USAC has not left much time for the athletes to travel and get rested (USAC is making the travel arrangements).

Donations are still welcolme as the expense just to get this far was great.
