Season Finale
While the season will be winding down after the last GSC event in August, it only means changes for our activities. This will be the last race in the series, but there are still races we will do. Changes in season mean more group rides and clinics for our riders. It is a time to get out and explore the trails in our region.
Devo team closes out final GSC race in Macon
(By Dave Anderson)
Justin Hinkle finished the first year of racing with a top spot for the 11-14 juniors in GSC series by finishing 3rd in the overall series. Justin was rewarded with a nice plaque and lots of nice swag at the awards banquet. Justin finished the Pigs trail, a hot and fast course with just a little hill climbing, just like the series by finishing 3rd for the day. He was followed by his brother Matthew who finished 5th, Joe Buck 7th, Carter Anderson 8th and Trace Nutt at 9th. We had one of the best turnouts at 11-14 yr age group of the year with over 15 boys racing!
Dustin Broadway wrapped up his 15-18 Beginner first place plaque on Sunday and was greeted by our newest member of the team, Martin Kiefer, who took the second place trophy. Martin, who is famous for his trackstand starts, finished 2nd at today's race and followed by Dustin who place 4th. Carter repeated for the second year in a row his title as the top Georgia series 9-11 year old rider.
It was a great racing season for all the boys. They are looking forward to next years series already!
SERC final
A fruitful awards dinner as Carter Anderson places second in 9-11 kids series and third place overall for the 11-14 beginner series. .
Welcome to our newest member, Kiefer Martin who just joined the Devo squad.
Fort Mountain
Congrats to our own Joe Buck who took his first victory of the season at the grueling Fort Mountain trails. This was the Cycleyouth's second victory in the GSC series. Justin Hinkle took a close second behind Joe. Matthew Hinkle took the fifth spot.
Cheaha Mountain, AL SERC
Anderson takes 2nd place in 11-14 and coasted to easy victory in kids 9-11 race.
Nationals at Mt Snow, Vermont
Anderson traveled up to his first national race in Mt Snow, Vermont and walked away with a 8th place finish for the 11-12 year old Juniors. It was a tough course as the boys had to make some major climbs and come down a very technical downhill singletrack section. Carter loved getting the chance and to race against kids his own age from all over the country and hopes to make it back Nationals next year.
Eatonton,GA -GSC #6 & SERC makeup race
6-22-08 by David The Devo team came out in full force at Rock Hawk Effigy Course. While a lot of the course was made up of fast single and doubletrack, the newer, tight single track that was added for this race presented a lot of headaches with its twisty tight turns and rocky sections.
Justin HInkle led the charge again for the Devo's finishing a strong 3rd. Joe Buck nudged out Matthew Hinkle for the 4th spot in a tough battle between the two boys that lasted the entire course. Matthew has worked hard in his training and he was able to finish with his first podium spot of the season. Not far behind was Trace Nutt who finished 6th and Carter who finished 7th. Dominique Woods finished 12th.
Clemson, SC -GSC Make up & SERC #5
6-15-08 by David A fun courses to ride, the Clemson race was also good one for top finishes of the Cycleyouth and Devo teams. Devo's Justin Hinkle just about pulled off a win but was denied by about 5 seconds. Warning by his competetors relatives about Justin's sneak attack at the top of the last hill climb. Justin felt that if had little more hill to climb he would have been able to take the lead and capture the win. Carter Anderson finished close behind with his best finish and first top three position in the 11-14 category. Carter won earlier the 9-11 kids race in one of the longest kids races by GoneRiding. Matthew Hinkle finished 6th as he was hampered by a broken fork suspension and DNF Dominique Wood who flatted out.
Scorcher at Carter's Lake
by David It was a hot one at Ridgeway/Carters Lake, and the devo team wave were just before high noon. Just to finish this race was an accomplishment in itself. Dustin Broadway had the highest finish in the Devo group with his third place finish at the 15-18 age group. Dustin came around the finish to find that his Dad had a broken collarbone, which he got at the difficult short down hill at the start of the race.
In the 11 to 14 age group, Joe Buck took top spot with the Devo team with a 6th place finish. Joe, Carter, Trace and Dominique took the 6th thru 9th spots.
Results:

6th Joe Buck
7th Carter Anderson
8th Trace Nutt

Another Big Winner at Bump and Grind
by David Anderson
Not only did the KHS/ Kenda/CycleYouth team pick up a couple of first places but our own Carter Anderson picked up a first place in the 12 and under Jr Olympic race.
Carter said he left all his competition behind almost immediately once they took their first turn and started the road hill climb on this mtb course. He was never threatened again. Carter, who only missed one race recently due to four broken fingers and is now about 90% healthy, said that it was a fast and fun trail and that he is looking forward to racing the entire trail next year. This race vaulted up his National ranking to 7th in the Nation for his 11/12 age group.
Carter was the only Cycleyouth Devo to make the trip for this race.
Devo shows new look at Heritage
by David Anderson
Real boys do love to get muddy, and our new uniforms proudly showed that our boys love to mix it up in the dirt. Real boys are also tough, and our own Trace Nutt is no exception.
Trace blew a flat tire in the back of the course and had a long walk before he finally got his tire fixed to make it back which put us all at ease. Trace toughed it out to finish the entire course.
Another gutsy move was our 10th place finisher Dominique Woods who stepped up from his normal Kids race to run in his first 11-14 long distance race. Way to go Dominique!
Mylan and Justin duked it out over the third position the first lap and part of the second lap before Mylan was able to break free for the 3rd place finish. Justin finished 5th, Carter 7th, Matthew 8th, Graham finished 13th and Trace 14th (Gone Riding failed to record Graham's finish).
Results:
11-14 age

Justin Hinkle 5th
Carter Anderson 7th
Matthew Hinkle 8th
Dominique Woods 10th
Graham Owings 13th

Devo Team attacks Fort Yargo
by DaveAnderson
A great effort by all our boys and the first time we had all the members riding in the same event. In the 11-14 age group, our newest member of the Devo team, Mylan Smith captured the highest spot on the Devo team with a second place finish. Right behind were podium finishers Justin Hinkle at 3rd and Joe Buck with a 5th place. They were followed by Carter Anderson 6th, Matthew Hinkle 7th , Trace Nutt 8th, Graham Owings 14th and first time racer AJ Nutt at 15th.
In the kids 9-11 yr old race the devo team swept the 2-4 spots with Carter at 2nd, Dominique Woods 3rd and Graham Owings taking 4th.
GSC #2 at Columbus Hardrock Park
4-13-08 Starting the day off by ending the competition's winning streak is Carter Anderson, who edged out his rival to take the top spot in the Kids race while G Owings secures 5th.
While that was perhaps a warm-up for the 11-14 Junior race later, Carter placed 6th there along with all his teammates. J Hinkle taking top honors in the team ranks with his 3rd place finish, and the sweep through 6th place with J Buck, M Smith, C Anderson 4th-6th, and T Nutt, M Hinkle and G Owings 9th -11th. Domination of the class!
