Tristan Cowie of Dawsonville, GA is heading to the World Championships in Scotland September 2007.
Tristan is representing the USA as a junior mountain biker.  He will be racing on Sept. 7th.
Please make a donation above as all fundng is up to him.

Tristan's top showing at both the Mount Snow, VT national and the Sugar Mountan NMBS event earned him a
spot on the team.  Trstian at 18 is one of the nations top junior cyclist, but he is taking a relaxed approach to the World Championships.

  Tristan quick report:
"Definitely a hard tail course, the FS help a little but if I had a choice I probably would have gone hard tail.

There was like a creek crossing and I guess something must have shifted during the race because it felt harder than during the pre-ride, and I just put a little rip right next to the tread.

I think Ethan was around 20th before he flatted
I felt great, the climbs were a little steeper than I like but I think it was my type of course."

Tristan reported briefly that after his flat tire, he had to run 1 Kilometer to the pit zone to make repairs. After a back row start position, with about 90 starters, he had moved up to 64th place before the flat moved him back.
A 1K run in carbon fiber sole shoes on hard surface could not have been an ideal situation.

64th spot for Tristan.  All we know so far is that Tristan "suffered a flat" according to USAC's site. At Worlds riders seldom carry spare tubes, since, if you flat the race is over anyway.  Likely that the rider would limp into the pit area and get a new wheel to finish the race.  Tristan's bike had the Stan's tubeless system, which is time consuming to replace with a tube during a race.  The photo above shows T with the wheel he started the race with, don't know when the pic was taken.

This is a good description of the course at Worlds

The weather looks decent for Glasgow; cloudy, cool and in the low 60's. (as of 9-3-07)

Word on the street is that USAC and our athletes got booted out of their hotel.  They usually, and did, book the entire hotel a year in advance.  Apparently the English Federation wanted the hotel for their affairs.  We don't know where USAC ended up.

US team was taking the Team Relay seriously. The relay is usually something riders do not want to do as it is just two days before the World Championships  for some, and would possibly make the rider too tired to perform well at the biggie.
Tristan did not race the relay so should be well rested for Sept 6th's race.
