Mike wins Jr ex
Andy 24th XC after long Marathon the day before

Sugar Mountain, NC
As local as it gets for a National
Jansen starts out the weekend with a solid win.
Seth Kemp goes next with a win in Junior Sport and Ethan follows with a win in Junior Expert 16 and under.
In the Junior Expert 17-18 things get rattled as Mike rips a tire and rides it in to the tech zone for a change.  Mike chases hard, but doesn't have the legs to close the gap but does finish a strong 2nd giving the day's winner points to tie for the series lead.  Tristan, at his first national, finishes 7th, and says, " the climbs didn't suit me as well."
Charlie's legs were in shock from the endless climbing the course offered.

Mount Snow, VT
What a difference a week makes.  Tristan nearly takes the win, but misses by seconds to stand 2nd on the podium with Mike in 3rd, who did not have a strong ride.  Tristan's result is what he needed to do today to move toward qualification on the National Team.  Charlie also showed greater strength gained from last week's epic climbing.  Although Vermont had climbing, it was more broken up than the latter, which suited him.  Mike wanted a win, but his main rival fell apart today and gave Mike a very strong lead in the over-all series.

OK, your wondering what happened to me, Andy.  After a week of R&R I had an injury that gave me another 10 days off the bike.  This followed decreased training due to allergies.  Two months of very bad training.  I thought the allergy problem was over (I never show any symptoms except being tired) and did not realize that both NC and VT were still flowering.  The pollen must have made things worse while at these two nationals.  I had absolutely nothing in my legs for racing, but did finish just for the training.  On the very last day as I was warming up for the short-track race I was admiring all the pretty flowers.  Then it hit me that there was pollen..... I took one allegra and felt better...  Now that these nationals are over I will probably feel like superman.

Park City, UT
On the start line Frosty, the Norba guy, announced the juniors would be doing one extra lap.  What professionalism!  This would mean a near 2.5 hour race for the juniors.  Keep in mind that the Junior World Championships is scheduled to last 1 hour 15 minutes.
Mike and Tristan did well with the altitude - taking the advice on how to handle it.  Mike was strong at first, but began to fade a little during the race, the last lap was hard for Mike and he slipped to third.
Tristan had a chain jam and in pulling it out may have damaged the links because he broke his chain twice after that.  He crashed and needed 9 stitches in his knee, but should be able to compete at the next round in Sonoma.

2006 GA CX Series
After 4 rounds Mike Cummings sits comfortably in the lead for the A men.

Ga Single Speed State Championships 3-19
Ethan Quehl  Junior Expert
Mark Hutchinson Sport Senior  (recycledyouth)

Ethan led the day while on his new found high for riding taking the junior expert 3 lap race solidly, followed by long time ss rider Charlie Bennett.
Jansen rode an aggressive race on the heels of the older juniors for a close silver followed by Everett for Bronze.  Tristan rode to top ten in the Sr Expert.
Andy rode the pro race to 2nd.  He took a little pounding from his borrowed hardtail/rigid fork bike - not the cushy xc racer KHS 904 he is used to.

State Single Speed Championship Race 2006
by Jansen Lindner
The day of the Single Speed Championship race, I was feeling really good, not just about the race, but the people around me. We had the Quehls, Bennetts, Andy, Scott Hodge and many more.
This was my first single speed race. My brother, Everett, and I got the chance to pre-ride the course on Saturday during the festival and it was a good course for me. Everett had damaged his derailleur a couple weeks before and had actually been on a single speed for awhile, but this was new to me. I raced one lap, so I knew I needed to go out as hard as I could and make it count.
I felt really good about the race too, because it was the first time I beat Everett, my older brother, fair and square (the other time he was sick). It was a difficult and long course to ride, especially on a single-speed.
We have been riding a lot on the road lately and it was great to be back on the dirt. My Kenda Kharismas were the right choice for the packed trail.
It feels great to be the Georgia State Single Speed Champion for 14 & U.
Macon GSC 2006
I feel like that one race made a huge difference in my riding because last year I was getting like sixth or seventh in a group of eight people. Now, close to eleven years old and the youngest, I got second in a group of five and even passed at least three people in the class above me. That felt good.
I used to pace myself because I thought it was too much for my body, but now I see no use in pacing because there isn't that extra five miles at the end. I think riding on the road and for longer distances has helped me so much. I know I have a lot more work to do, but it was nice to see an improvement in my racing.
Thanks to all the CycleYouth guys and parents who supported us at both of these races. You are really nice people. Thanks again.

SERC #1, Reddick, FL
Axel races the first of the day. Alain Fontaine (recycledyouth) competes after some time off.
The next race was the pros and experts.  In the Sr expert Tristan Cowie races on a borrowed bike after ripping his frame apart on rocks.  His new KHS bike is on the way fortunately.  Tristan finishes 5th.  In the Jr Ex Ethan and Christian F roll in 3rd and 4th for a great start to their cycling season.
In the pro race, Andy has a problem on the start and enters the trail dead last.  This is not a course that allows for much passing.  He moves up to third by the end.

The Cane Creek Cup was a big moment for Mike Cummings.  This day marked his first win in a category with  lot of top local pro's.  Mike attacked from the start and held a furious pace for most of the first lap before forcing another rider to take a pull.  The elite front group went from 6 to 5 to 4 at the finish.  Mike attacked on the finish climb and had a nice gap crossing the line.
